Rapid changes occurring in the field of communication (ICT developments, the increasing significance of the Internet as a mass medium, the development of international media companies), entail change in the area of widely understood culture, traditionally dependent on the methods of human communication. The many aspects of these changes can be seen in a variety of ethical perspectives. The conference aims to discuss the ethical and cultural aspects of the development of mass communication, with particular emphasis on modern technologies. The continuous technological progress and said changes in communications force reflection on the existing cultural and ethical concepts. We are pleased to invite you to the conference, which will attempt to raise international discussion (which, we hope, will become a recurring event) about the scale in which the teleinformatics revolution changes the world we know, based on certain cultural foundations. Are these changes not sufficiently deep to redesign the cultural and ethical foundations of civilization? And if so, will these ethical and cultural concepts prove useful to current and future societies?
One of the significant figures taking up the issues of ethics and culture was the winner of the Nobel Peace Prize - Albert Schweitzer. Schweitzer pointed out the danger of unreflective progress and the crisis of culture in his contemporary society. Due to the universality of its author, Schweitzer's philosophy applies and remains valid in many areas until this day.
In the programme of the conference, we suggest to consider the following issues:
- cultural aspects of mass media
- changes in culture induced by ICT development
- problems of modern civilization and mass media (terrorism, famine, climate change, democracy in the 21st century)
- computer ethics in the 21st century
- development of mass communication in the perspective of ethical concepts
- international mass media; trends, prospects, problems
- future of research on mass communication
- modern determinants of the development of mass media (technology, economy, politics)
- vision of information society: past, present, future
- the life, thought and work of Albert Schweitzer
